The Okanagan is known for its sweeping landscapes, shimmering lakes, and abundant vineyards, but there is another layer of artistry that runs just as deep here: the thriving community of local potters. From the valleys of Kelowna to the quiet corners of Lumby, and right here in Vernon, pottery has become a way for many artists to express their connection to the land and the beauty that surrounds us.

As a local ceramic artist, I feel incredibly grateful to be part of the Vernon pottery scene. There’s something truly grounding about shaping clay that comes from the same earth beneath our feet. The creative energy here is palpable. Whether it’s functional tableware, sculptural pieces, or intricate glazes inspired by Okanagan sunsets, every potter in this region brings their own story and spirit to the wheel.

One of the things I love most about the Okanagan pottery community is the sense of connection and collaboration. Many of us share tips, techniques, and sometimes even kiln space, supporting each other as we continue to grow in our craft. Local markets, studio tours, and gallery exhibitions give people the chance to see firsthand the incredible diversity of styles and techniques that define Vernon pottery and the wider Okanagan region.

Each handmade piece created here carries the imprint of this place, the soft light of early morning, the textures of the forest, the deep calm of the lake, and the timeless beauty of natural imperfection. When someone brings a piece of Vernon pottery into their home, they are also bringing a piece of the Okanagan’s creative soul.

Supporting local pottery is a way of honouring this landscape and the makers who are inspired by it. Every mug, bowl, and vase tells a story of patience, craftsmanship, and care. It’s a reminder that beauty can come from simplicity, and that handmade objects have a way of infusing everyday moments with warmth and meaning.

If you find yourself exploring the Okanagan, I highly recommend you find some time to visit the local studios, galleries, and markets that showcase the heart of our region’s artistry. And if you are searching for something uniquely soulful, I invite you to explore my collection of Vernon pottery at Love & Light Earthware. Each piece is made with intention and love, designed to bring a touch of Okanagan magic into your home.

In love and light,

- Lindsey xo
