The Alchemy of Energy: How Spirit Moves Through Clay, Fire, and Creation in Handmade Pottery

Every time I sit at the wheel, there’s a quiet moment before my hands meet the clay, a moment where I can feel my breath, my body, and something deeper that moves beneath both. Recently, during a breathwork session, I received a message from spirit that landed so clearly it felt like it came from the center of my soul:
“You transmute energy through your work and through the fire.”
Those words have been echoing in my heart ever since.
As an artist working with handmade pottery, I’ve always felt a connection to the earthiness of clay, the groundedness of the wheel, and the transformative power of the kiln. But this message helped me see my process in an entirely new light. It reminded me that pottery isn’t just a craft. It’s an alchemical practice, one where energy moves, shifts, heals, and becomes something new.
Clay as a Vessel for Emotion and Intention

When I touch clay, I can feel my emotions settle into it. If I’m calm, the clay softens. If I’m holding tension, the clay mirrors that too. There’s a conversation happening, subtle but honest.
Clay remembers.
It holds the imprint of every breath, every thought, every intention. And in that sense, each piece becomes a vessel not only in form but also in energy. When I shape a mug, bowl, or pendant, I’m also shaping the invisible. I’m pouring in love, light, grounding, and presence. Sometimes I’m even letting the clay absorb the heaviness that needs to move.
This is the first layer of alchemy.
The Fire: A Sacred Transformation
But the second layer—the one spirit was speaking about—happens in the fire.
The kiln is not just a tool. It’s a crucible. It’s the place where earth, water, air, and fire meet and where transformation becomes inevitable. Raw clay turns to stone. Fragile shapes become strong, lasting, and whole. What once yielded to fingertips becomes something that can hold your morning coffee, your evening tea, your quiet rituals.
Energetically, the fire does something just as profound. It burns away what was never meant to stay. It seals in the beauty that was. It transforms intention into presence.
And if I’ve been unknowingly transmuting energy through the kiln then the fire has not only shaped the clay but also the emotions and frequencies woven into it. It purifies. It finalizes. It returns the piece to the world in a new energetic form.
This is the alchemy of creation.
A Collaboration Between Spirit and Maker
The message I received wasn’t just about my process. It was a reminder that creativity itself is a spiritual partnership. Spirit flows through the hands of anyone willing to slow down and listen. For me, pottery is where my soul feels the most connected, to the earth, to intuition, and to the unseen.
Each piece becomes a quiet prayer. A moment captured. A frequency transformed.
And when someone brings one of my pieces into their home, they’re not just receiving handmade pottery, they’re bringing in energy that has been breathed through, shaped with intention, and transformed by fire.
For those who feel especially connected to the land, I love knowing that my work also carries the spirit of the valley itself. There is something unique and soul-nourishing about Okanagan pottery. It's deeply rooted in nature, inspired by the mountains, lakes, and forests, and touched by the energy of this place I love so deeply.
Why This Matters in Handmade Pottery
We often think of creativity as something external we produce, but it’s also internal. It’s the movement of energy. It’s healing. It’s expression. It’s transformation. When spirit reminded me that I transmute energy through my work, it helped me understand why pottery feels like medicine to me.
It’s not just art. It’s alchemy.
And it’s my way of moving energy. For myself, for my family, for the people who feel drawn to these pieces, and for the collective.
Closing Thoughts
I don’t think we choose our mediums. I think they choose us. And clay, with all its earthiness and truth, chose me. Through breath, intention, touch, and fire, I get to be part of a process that is ancient, sacred, and deeply alive.
And maybe that’s what spirit wanted me to remember. That every piece I create carries more than form. It carries transformation. It carries light. It carries the alchemy of energy moving through me and back into the world.
In love and light,
